Do
you need to have a corner office with a window and a
secretary to assist you?
If so, Green Lantern may not be right for you. Green
Lantern managers do not have white collar jobs. Our managers
do have offices at the locations, but they spend very
little time there. Effective managers spend 80% of their
time working with their team players and interacting
with customers.
Do
you mind getting your hands dirty?
Green Lantern managers are often hands-on. They may
have to fix a pump, ring up a customer, or demonstrate
techniques to a team player. They work and train in
the position alongside their team players. They do
whatever it takes to be successful.
Do
you believe seniority or an advanced degree should
determine your pay?
Green Lantern managers are rewarded based on their
performance - not just their time in a position or
whether or not they have a college degree. We hold
managers accountable and reward them for obtaining
results.
Do
you prefer an 8-5, Monday - Friday job?
Green Lantern Convenience Store and Self-Service managers
are responsible for 24 hour-a-day, seven day-a-week
operations; the Express Service managers have 14 hour-a-day,
seven day-a-week operations. Working 8-5 Monday through
Friday is normally not enough. Green Lantern managers
typically work more than 40 hours per week. On the
other hand, Green Lantern does not expect or accept
managers working an unreasonable number of hours. On
average, managers will work between 45 and 55 hours
per week and are encouraged to make time for family
and community activities. A successful manager should
miss few recitals, games, school activities, and other
events that make up family life.
Do
you want a job title that sounds impressive to
friends and family?
Although Green Lantern is a very professional company,
the car wash industry, in general, suffers from a poor
image among the general public. Telling people you
are a car wash manager won't turn many heads, yet Green
Lantern managers and team players take great pride
in our company. Pursue a career with us only if you
will be proud to say, "I
manage a car wash (or convenience store) with Green
Lantern."
Do you
want to work "only" with business professionals?
For many team players, Green Lantern will be their
first job. Green Lantern managers mold and motivate
front-line workers to be professional and take pride
in their work, but this is a constant challenge. At
times, Green Lantern managers have to deal with unprofessional
behavior. Managers who do not enjoy this challenge
are unlikely to succeed.
Will
a career move be good for you and your family?
It has been our experience that manager candidates
are most successful when career decisions are made
with their family in mind. A candidate's career move
to Green Lantern is likely to succeed only if the move
is good for the candidate's spouse and family.
